The Emerald Fever

the jewel of the season

A batch of Columbian Emeralds from the Mozu Mines

Amongst the big four, Emeralds have taken the center stage!

Known for its vibrant, lush green color, exceptional clarity, and rarity – the stone has paved it’s way into the Gen-Z ‘favorites’.

But what really makes the stone worth it? Well, let me explain- rather take you down the historic lane as move up towards today.

The first recorded emeralds were found in Egypt around 330 BCE, ruled by the last pharaoh of Egypt, Cleopatra prized emeralds and wore them in various jewelry pieces. Considered as a symbol of royalty, of course the rulers in Indian had to have em’, thus the trade of emeralds began during the Mughal era and ever since India has seen some of the most magnificent and opulent jewels ever to be made!

Coming back to this date – the value and obsession remains the same, rather increased as which was once seen just in the royal trousseau is now accessible to the common man as well.

Colombian Emerald have set a benchmark for all the other emeralds round the world for it boasts a mesmerizing deep green hue with slight bluish tones, excellent transparency with minimal inclusions, and a masterful cut to enhance its beauty.

Here are some of my favorites from the Indian jewelry chest.

Neha Roongta Fine Jewellery – from their Columbian Emerald treasure. 20.25cts pear shaped Columbian emerald earrings with diamonds alongside 12ct pear shaped Columbian emerald ring with more than 2 carats of pear and marquise-shaped diamonds, both set in 18k white gold.

Floral carved Emerald earrings from their Panna collection.

The Tasawur brooch by Alok Lodha jewels highlights 51 carats of pear shaped Columbian emerald and 30.03 carats of old cut diamonds.
